Sal Rei: pier, wreck and the town beach
Best forPeople who want Boa Vista without sleeping inside a hotel compound
Sal Rei is the reason to stay in town rather than only inside a resort on the southern beaches. The pier, the painted streets and the wreck of the Santa Maria on the reef are a morning’s walk. The town beach is busy with locals on Sundays and quiet enough midweek.
What to do
Swim on the town side when the wind allows. Walk out toward the wreck only as far as the tide and the rocks make sensible. Eat in town at least once: the resort strip will still be there tomorrow.
Rental cars and quad circuits leave from here toward Santa Monica and the dunes. Book the car the day before in high season. A quad is not a licence to drive the turtle beaches at night.
