Furna, where the boat comes in

Best forThe hour you arrive, and anyone staying more than one night

Furna is the harbour. The ferry from Fogo lands here when the sea allows. The village climbs immediately. There is not a promenade to stroll off the jet lag. There is a road up to Nova Sintra and a coast that stays steep.

Arrival

If the crossing was rough, sit down before you negotiate a car. The drive to Nova Sintra is short and winding. Rooms are easier to find in the capital than at the harbour, but Furna is the right walk on the morning you leave, so you are early for the boat.

Do not book a same-day international flight on the back of this crossing. Fogo is the buffer. Brava is the stay.
