Assomada market day
Best forA morning of produce, cloth and the real price of groceries
Assomada’s market is where Santiago shops when it is not in a Praia supermarket. Fruit, vegetables, cloth, tools, noise. It is not arranged for visitors, which is why it is worth the drive.
How to go
Market mornings are the point. Go with small notes. Ask before you photograph a stall. Eat nearby rather than hunting for a view restaurant. The town is functional and that is fine.
Combine it with Serra Malagueta if you start early. Combine it with Cidade Velha only if you enjoy being in a car. The two are in opposite directions from a lazy day.
