Mindelo takes Carnival more seriously than anywhere else in Cape Verde. Floats, schools, weeks of rehearsal. It is not a hotel animation.
If you go
Book rooms as soon as dates drop. Flights fill. The centre is loud at night. If you want quiet, this is the wrong week — go to Santo Antão and come in for one parade.
