Monte Verde above the channel

Monte Verde is the only reliably green ground on São Vicente. The road climbs out of Mindelo into eucalyptus and a short walk to a view of the channel. On a clear day Santo Antão looks close enough to swim. It is not.

Practical

Go in the morning. Cloud sits on the top by noon in the wet months. A taxi can wait, or you share an aluguer. There is little shade on the last stretch and almost no food. Carry water. Combine it with Laginha in the afternoon, not with a night of music if you are already tired.
