São Vicente
São Pedro, the airport road and a fish lunch
Best forA half-day out of the city
São Pedro sits under the flight path of Cesária Évora airport. Fishermen still land on the beach. The village is not pretty in a postcard way. It is a working place, and the lunch is the reason to go.
The half-day
Take a taxi or an aluguer from Mindelo. Walk the beach if the wind is down. Eat what was caught, not a printed menu of lobster. The road back past the salt pans is the better light in the late afternoon.
Do not plan a swim if the airport swell is up. Mindelo’s Laginha is the easier sea. São Pedro is for the boats and the meal.
